The kitchen used to be the size of the island ! Behind the "now" coffee bar is the laundry room. That is where the kitchen used to be. With appliances too small and aging cabinetry the previous cramped, dark space needed a lot of help. The issues were the spaces beyond the kitchen. A screened in seasonal room and a family room were all on different lower levels. They boxed the kitchen into the middle of the house with no direct view to their mature yard. By raising all of the floors to the same level a new Great room was created. The overall design priority was to allow as much natural light in as possible. The gourmet kitchen followed with a simple layout, cherry cabinets and granite counters. Now a space for the whole family to enjoy! As with a majority of renovations.... one leads to another.
On the second floor this odd little room 7' x 17' which also enjoys the view of the river valley was converted from a bedroom into a home office. It was a space that was to be used by the homeowner in her newly retired stage of life. Wall paper and wood beams were used to create warmth in this long narrow room. The Stone and wrought iron light fixtures were placed over the desk for function but were detailed for unexpected interest.
The rest of this family home has also been completed with all of the creature comforts one can imagine. The rooms I selected to photograph are my favorites.
It has been an honour to work with this family and create something just for them.
